About me.
Hej!
My name is Tomás McKenna, I'm a Swirish scientist living in Sweden since 2003, which means it's Palt in Luleå one Christmas, Tayto in Skerries the next. I'm married in Stockholm, have some children and live ten minutes from a bunch of lakes and cliffs and boulders. I used to hike and ski (Randonné!) and climb a lot and still sometimes do, but almost always find time for photography, reading, science and BJJ (pandemics allowing).
I wrote my doctorate on Stem Cells in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, a premature ageing disease. After my post-doc on what I now think was branching morphogenesis, I made the leap from academia to starting a deep-tech company to develop digital therapeutics for mental health.
Mother.
The company is called Mother. and is targeting mental health. Research is only just beginning to reveal the extent mental health issues can be treated with VR, and the results are striking. As the science & technology develop and prices drop, VR will become a powerful mental health treatment vector. We aim to develop processes in this new field, and to develop the services delivering them in a socially responsible, sustainable way.
