Tomás McKenna

I'm an Irish scientist working at the Karolinska Institutet, in Stockholm, Sweden.

I am a driven, enthusiastic person with a high motivation to always do my best. After my Ph.D. on disease mechanisms in premature ageing, I did a postdoc with the University of Helsinki and KI, focused on the stem cell niche, picking apart the effects of ECM proteins on the morphology and stemness of cells in the niche.

I am currently working on a project to explore the effects of immersive VR on consciousness, and how these effects might be used in healthcare, education and communication.

English is my mother-tongue, I also speak Swedish fluently, have good German, and know beagán beag Gaeilge. When not researching, I like to practise Brazilian ju-jitsu, climbing, skiing, photography and microscopy.
